Thermal management consulting and R&D services > Electrical Vehicle Batteries

The development of electric vehicles requires the thermal management of one of their most important components: the battery. Most of the batteries are Lithium-ion and during the charging and discharging process, they generate heat that if left uncontrolled will result in undesired temperature levels. Furthermore, for long battery life, battery temperatures need to be kept within a narrow range of internal temperatures despite being exposed to a wide range of ambient temperatures, from -40 C to +55 C (worldwide).

We can design and develop thermal management systems for EV batteries using natural convection, forced convection, two phase flows, and phase change materials (PCM). PCMs for thermal management are an attractive technology to achieve thermal control of the battery under a variety of environmental and operational conditions. Their cost is relatively low and easy to implement. Heat Pipes for thermal management are an attractive technology to achieve thermal control of the battery under a variety of environmental and operational conditions. Their cost is relatively low and easy to implement.
